Karl Turner today opened the new Hull College Group Composite Centre which will train all 800 operational staff at the Alexandra Dock wind turbine site, the centre piece of the world class, state of art facilities being built in East Hull.
Hull College Group was awarded the £1m training contract which means that the Siemens investment will truly be a local project, with local training provided by local people.
The creation of the Composite Centre to train the work force of an international renewables organisation is further evidence, if needed, of the Humber renewable renaissance.
Speaking after the Launch, Karl Turner, MP for East Hull said "The Composite Centre will train local people and give them the skills and resources required to make the most out of the opportunities that the Siemens investment has provided.
"East Hull is benefiting massively from the biggest ever inward investment into the City. Not only will we have a highly trained and skilled workforce, but local businesses and others in the supply chain stand to gain from having a better skills base from which to draw.
"Today's opening marks the next step in East Hull's renewable renewal. We have a proud history in East Hull but today is about looking to the future and securing a sustainable footing".
