On his promotion to the Shadow Cabinet, Karl Turner MP said “I am delighted to join Jeremy Corbyn’s Shadow Cabinet as Shadow Attorney General. I served as Shadow Solicitor General under Ed Miliband and was thrilled to carry on as Law Officer and justice minister under Jeremy Corbyn.
“It is important now, more than ever, that we take the fight to the Tories and hold the Government to account.
“This Tory Government has savaged access to justice, cut the legal aid budget to the bone, threatens to undermine our human rights by scrapping the Human Rights Act and denigrated the rule of law.
“I look forward to working to make sure that the Labour Party continues to be the party of justice.
“I pay tribute to my predecessor Catherine McKinnell MP who carried out the job brilliantly, it was a privilege to have worked with her.
“Today’s appointment shows that Hull will have its voice heard on a national level and at the top of the Labour Party once more.
“This is a proud moment for me, to have gone from Bransholme Estate in East Hull, to practising as a lawyer and now in Shadow Cabinet shows that kids in East Hull can get on and do well.”
