Letter to the Chancellor
Letter to the Chancellor

I welcome the Chancellor’s announcement yesterday extending the cut-off date for furloughing new employees from 28th February to 19th March. As I wrote to Rishi Sunak on 31st March, the Government must ensure that there are no gaps in the measures to support the economy. It’s real peoples lives and livelihoods that fall through them, so I will continue to do all that I can to ensure everyone gets the necessary support.

This adjustment makes thousands more workers eligible for furlough, so it’s an extremely positive step, and credit is due to all who have made it happen.

If you live in East Hull and have been denied furlough for having newly started in your job, speak to your employer to see if you now qualify.
