Yesterday, a deal was announced between the NHS and Vertex Pharmaceuticals to make new cystic fibrosis medications available in England. Back in June, Karl called upon the then Prime Minister, Theresa May, to meet with his constituent Oliver, and his mum Emma (see video below). Reacting to yesterday’s news, Karl Turner said:
“For far too long, our NHS and patients in desperate need have been held to ransom for life-saving drugs by predatory capitalist pharmaceutical companies that constantly put their greed and fat cat profits before people’.
‘Today’s NHS England announcement that Orkambi and other vital medications will soon become available on the NHS is fantastic news and a great relief for all those people that have to live with the debilitating illness Cystic Fibrosis’.
‘I want to pay tribute and give heartfelt thanks to all those who have campaigned tirelessly on this issue, especially my young constituent Oliver Ward and his mum, Emma Gadie. Emma’s campaign has been incredible. She has just not given up and she is an absolute inspiration.”
Today I asked the Prime Minister to meet with my 7 year old constituent, Oliver Ward and his mother @emmagadie2009 to discuss what she can do personally to end this 'burning injustice' and ensure that Olly and other CF sufferers are able to gain access to Orkambi ASAP. pic.twitter.com/HD1kz1FvWf
