I wanted to update East Hull residents on the potential East Carr/Danby Close housing development.

Over the past few weeks, I have received many emails from residents outlining their views on the future of the area.

Having considered the many issues raised with me by members of the public and my own concerns as a resident of Sutton village, it is abundantly clear to me that local residents rightly overwhelmingly oppose the any plans to build private housing on this area.

As the consultation draft shows, this development will have a significant and negative impact on the neighbourhood.

During such developments, it is crucial that all those who will be impacted have their voices heard, and I will therefore be opposing any plans as currently set out.

There are numerous reasons as to why I strongly oppose this proposed East Carr development, not least the environmental and flood risk impact. The loss of important green space is also a major concern that I have. The impact on further road and traffic problems, and the effect on local schools is an added factor which doesn’t seem to have been properly considered.

Therefore, I wanted to contact you today to make it clear to all residents that I stand beside you in the fight against this development together with your Labour Councillors, Cllr Dave Craker and Cllr Robert Dunstan who are both strongly opposed to this potential development plan. Cllr. Dave Craker is fighting hard on behalf of residents to make sure this does plan doesn’t get to planning stage.

The Local Plan is part of the statutory development plan for Hull which is mandated by central Government however personally alongside Cllr Craker this area outlined in the consultation is not the right one for a new development which is why we are opposed to this.

Like many others in our community, I remember the heavy flooding in 2007, and I know that this has been a particularly important issue to many of those who have contacted me. There is very good reason that planning officers rejected the idea of development on this land back in 1994 and as far as I can tell, nothing has changed. In fact if anything, traffic congestion and school places have deteriorated since that time.

As your Member of Parliament, I will do everything within my power to represent the views of residents in my constituency.

I will also be fighting the Tory Governments decision to change how local planning works by taking the local communities voice away and making planning decisions without the involvement of Hull City Council, your local councillors, your Member of Parliament and most importantly your voice as a resident. I will not stand by and have planning decisions made by the Government without having local engagement.

I fully oppose this potential development, and I am working closely with your local Labour Councillors to make your voices heard and get the best for our local communities.

Rest assured that myself and your Labour Councillors will fight any such proposals if they make it to formal planning stage and beyond if the Government are required to make the decision after appeal in the event that it gets that far.
