In a Party Political Broadcast aired last night on BBC One, the Home Secretary Priti Patel falsely claimed that “only Conservative Police & Crime Commissioners are ensuring that we have more police officers on our streets.” This is completely untrue. Since Labour’s Keith Hunter became Humberside’s PCC in 2016, he has added nearly 600 additional officers to our streets – the biggest proportionate increase in the country.
That’s why Hull’s three MPs have written (see letter above) to Priti Patel, to ask her to set the record straight.
Keeping our communities safe is an ongoing process, and there is always more to do, but as Hull’s representatives we will not allow our city to be, at best, forgotten about, or at worst, deliberately ignored to make a Tory fib sound convincing.
