East Hull Amateur Boxing Club visiting Parliament back in 2019
East Hull Amateur Boxing Club visiting Parliament back in 2019

Today I wrote to Matt Jukes, Chief Executive at Hull City Council to raise the predicament facing East Hull Amateur Boxing Club, currently based in St Bede’s Church Hall on Staveley Road in my constituency.

The boxing club do a phenomenal amount of good for the local community, providing dozens of young people with purposeful activity, building their self-confidence, and instilling them with positive values and an active lifestyle.

The premises at the church hall were already inadequate for the club’s ambitions to grow, as their Head Coach, Sean Ross, explained to me on a visit to Parliament with young boxers last year. However, they have now been informed by St Bede’s that they face either their rent being doubled or eviction from the hall.

It is financially impossible for them to afford the increased rent and maintain the accessible pricing of their classes, and the loss of the club would be a severe blow to this community and local young people.

Therefore, it is absolutely essential that new premises are found for East Hull ABC and I have vowed to do everything in my power as the Member of Parliament for East Hull to help them in their search for a new home in the local area.
