I was delighted to have recently had the opportunity to meet with a group of pupils from Griffin Primary School who visited parliament and asked me some insightful questions. It was heartening to see their enthusiasm and to hear their thoughtful queries about the workings of parliament and how democracy operates in our country.

As an MP, it’s always great to be able to engage with young people and to encourage them to take an interest in politics. These children were a prime example of how important it is for us to teach our young people about democracy and the role that they can play in shaping it.

One of the questions that really stuck with me was about how parliament ensures that the voices of ordinary people are heard. I think that’s a really important question, because it speaks to the heart of what democracy is all about – ensuring that everyone has an equal say in how our country is governed.

Overall, it was an incredibly inspiring event and one that I hope will encourage these young people to continue to ask questions, participate in debates, and ultimately take an active role in our democracy. As an MP, it’s my duty and privilege to represent the views and concerns of my constituents, including our youngest residents, and I look forward to hearing from them again in the future.
